AMP IV HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:

Jolere
| Images Come To Life (Joanna Lees) –Jolere is a multi-movement work for modern dance with original music for strings and voice based on evocative visual art work. Award-winning composer Lee Kesselman and emerging choreographer Joanna Lees will explore emotional and structural content inspired by the paintings and sculptures of prolific fine artist René Romero Schuler. Each artist will reach beyond their secluded art forms (dance, music, visual arts) to create an intimate, stunning and powerful piece that will resonate with audiences by bringing art to life visually, audibly, and kinesthetically.

HeartBeatRed (Kristin Howe)- In three sections, this piece explores the human heart’s both physical and emotional existence, while focusing on the mechanics, weakness’, and bondages of the ever so vital muscle. Includes original music performed live by local musician Dameun Strange.

I dare you to touch my dangerous skin (Taja Will, Guest Artist) – Inspired by AMP’s ‘Move BIG’ motto, Taja’s affinity for risk, agency, spontaneity will drive this piece. Also including nuanced partnering, this new work tests the edges of impact and endurance while using AMP's incredibly skilled company to incorporate their personal movement desires to shape the character of the work. I dare you to touch my dangerous skin will be a fierce, high-energy work intentionally crafted for these dancers.

Audience Create-a-Dance (Kristin Howe) – In September 2014, AMP audience members were given the chance to be directly part of the creative process. Nearly 50 of AMP’s patrons voted on the number of dancers (7), the type of music (World Music) and what subject matter they would like to see (Fantasy vs. Reality); these results are the framework for an entirely new work by Kristin Howe.

Weight of the World (Joanna Lees) – This emotional and intense large group piece follows one’s journey as she explores life’s obstacles and how to find strength and resiliency to continue through adversity.

This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
