THE FIFTH HIGHLIGHTS INCLUDE:
Moontides (Penelope Freeh, McKnight Fellow + Sage Awardee) – Moontides takes its inspiration from the phases of the moon and how its attraction to the sun affects the tides. These concepts are imaginatively described in the movement vocabulary, using gestures subtle, sweeping and explorative of dancers’ spatial relationships.
rEvolve (Kristin Howe)- This world premiere is a true collaboration between Richard Haglund, (composer/percussionist/director) and Kristin Howe (choreographer) as they create and explore an evolving world on stage. rEvolve follows one travelling through three periods represented by distinct music and groups of movers while always returning to her circular and earthly origin and becoming transformed by her journey.
#binge (Joanna Lees) – #binge follows a trio of dancers as they cycle through the highs and lows of the emotional and physical stages that come with binge-watching a TV show. This activity contradicts itself with feelings of pride & shame, connection & isolation, and gratification & regret, and has now become normal and even encouraged in our modern society. Includes projections and some adult language.
a whisper, then a flash (Audience Create-a-Dance, Jesse Schmitz-Boyd) – An allegory on the power and imperfection of memory for five dancers, this dance work was developed from audience-selected directives. In August 2015, AMP audience members were able to be a part of the creative process. AMP’s patrons voted on the number of dancers (5), the type of music (Avant Garde) and what subject matter they would like to see (Memory); these results are the framework for this entirely new piece by Company Member Jesse Schmitz-Boyd.

I Choose You (Kristin Howe)- This evocative piece explores the delicate balance, understanding, and patience it takes to build and sustain a healthy, nurturing, intimate connection. The relationship is portrayed by a duet of dancers as they give and take while experiencing passion, struggle, happiness, doubt, and peace.
It’s Always Sudden (Joanna Lees) – This physically demanding piece for 7 dancers explores death in an approach that is unemotional a mere fact of life. No matter when life is born, death is something that no one escapes. It comes in a variety of ways and regardless, death always comes suddenly while life outside continues to move forward.
