Help AMP Move BIG on Give to the MAX Day!
AMP is committed to creating even more opportunities for local choreographers, dancers and audiences this year with the addition of another full-length show.
  • DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT: The first $3,500 raised will be MATCHED by a wonderfully generous donor!

When we had to unexpectedly cancel our March 2020 performance, we were able to adapt and reimagine our content in a Screendance film, giving our artists and audiences an alternative experience. Likewise, AMP is still rising to the unique challenges posed from the COVID-19 pandemic. We need your support to transform our programming to address the needs of our communities.

We are embarking on all new content this year with an array of ambitious additions to our activities:

  • WEEKLY VIRTUAL MOVEMENT CLASSES for area Professionals (ongoing). These classes aim to build community among Minnesota's dance artists and are offered free of charge/donation based to meet monetary needs and maximize financial accessibility. More info here.

  • AMP PRESENTS MOVE TO THE MAX:VIRTUAL EDITION (November 20th). This online community event brings together 9 different movement organizations to celebrate Give to the Max Day. These organizations combine forces for an exciting and special event celebrating movement in Minnesota. Enjoy compelling content from the comfort of your own home that includes a variety of distinct performances and films by each company. More info here.

  • World Premiere of AMP's First-Ever NEW SITE SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE WORK featuring a collaboration between AMP's Directors, KRISTIN HOWE + JOANNA LEES (Summer 2021). AMP will navigate rehearsal and performance with the restrictions of living through a pandemic while experimenting with the challenges + opportunities of working outside of the proscenium theater space.

  • AMP'S First-Ever SUMMER WORKSHOP (Summer 2021). This 4-day workshop (in person and virtual) will invite participants to engage in various movement practices, improvisation, creative process, and repertory material.

  • AMP's First-Ever VIRTUAL DISCUSSION PANELS (Bi-annual TBD 2021). AMP will host 2 public online discussion panels that engage artists to address the challenges of creating dance during COVID-19, including: creative problem-solving, the future of concert dance/performance, coping strategies, & cultural differences.

This year, and beyond, our goals through these activities are:
  • To lead in our values in accessibility, particularly for patrons and community members affected financially by COVID-19. This includes increasing stipends for personnel and removing financial barriers for patrons.
  • To maintain and increase AMP’s presence in the dance community and the Twin Cities during the pandemic. This includes providing more community events, resources, and programs, especially for area dancers/artists.
  • To make AMP more equitable, internally within the organization and externally within our activities and focus. This includes the start of a Community Fund that is specifically allocated to improving AMP and increasing awareness regarding racial equity and justice, at large and within dance. Our statement on systemic racism can be found on our homepage.
  • To remain flexible and adaptable to the ever-changing nature of our world and resources. We will act with the utmost safety and health in mind for all involved.

And celebrate some of our past accomplishments since 2011:
  • Produced 10 full length shows and 1 Screendance film
  • Worked with over 40 artists
  • 3 tours (Kalamazoo, Chicago area, Lousiville)
  • Created over 40 new works
  • Commissioned over 17 new works from outside artists
  • Worked with over 500 public school students

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO MOVE BIG?Move BIG is more than a tagline- it is AMP's philosophy. Move BIG means more than the large and virtuosic movement that Howe and Lees have been known for. Move BIG is advancing the art form of dance in any way we can. Whether it is through our choreography and performances, collaborations with other artists, engaging audience members, or education and exposure to those in need, we can come together as a community and acknowledge a purpose greater than ourselves.
