ABOUT THE CLASSES
Noelle Awadallah, Body Watani
Wednesday, Oct. 26th - 10:00-11:30am
Body Watani (watani means homeland in Arabic) is both an improvisational movement practice and an emerging contemporary dance form developed by Leila Awadallah, in collaboration with Noelle Awadallah, Palestinian American dancers. The practice is a container with soft edges where improvisational research guides practitioners into their personal ‘body watani’ through spending time with ancestries, contemplating our complex relations to land / water / home, and activating embodied memories into one's own dancing. Body Watani also manifests as a contemporary form with roots in dances of Arabic / *SWANA / Mediterranean lands through specific movement techniques, music of the region, and cultural / political content to engage with that deepens our relation to Body Watani’s context. *SWANA : South West Asia North Africa. Rachel Lieberman
Thursday, Oct. 27th - 10:00-11:30am
As a guest choreographer with Alternative Motion Project this Fall, Rachel has been swan-diving into a silly and sentimental world of birds to explore themes around home, home-land, and migration. Drawing from this world cultivated in rehearsals with the AMP cast, this class will offer a guided improvisatory warm-up, some more rigorous technical on-the floor and across-the-floor work focused on fostering ease and riding momentum, and an exploration of a phrase from 'Flight', Rachel's ViewPoints '22 piece.
Joanna Lees, AMP Artistic Director
Friday, Oct. 28th - 10:00-11:30am
Move BIG, sweat and play in an energizing atmosphere supported by pop hits in this Contemporary Movement Practice. Participants will build awareness + explore expansive possibilities within their own individuality and identities. Through improvised + structured movement vocabulary, participants will be encouraged to research freedom, 3-D expansion, mobility, rigor, presence, + agency in choice-making + empowerment with each individual's own unique body.

Nieya Amezquita
Saturday, Oct. 29th - 10:00-11:30am
Nieya's contemporary class will be a mix of various techniques such as Limón, Horton and Graham. We will explore the use of momentum and connecting breath with movement and also dive into different ways of trusting the body in combinations, floorwork and improv. Come move and groove with us!
Alexandra Bodnarchuk
Saturday, Oct. 29th - 11:45am - 1:15pm
Class will begin with a full body wake up before moving into expansive movement. Students will be guided through articulate exercises, and end class learning a phrase that invites them to explore their full range of movement from big to small.
